plot

On a deserted island in Budapest, right on the bank of the river Danube operates a small night shelter called Isola. This once stylish resort hotel formerly owned by a ministry, where Hungarian communist leader János Kádár also liked to sunbathe, is now in a terribly run-down condition, in sharp contrast with the beautiful natural environment and the luxury residential park across the river. The residents of the asylum include a former research engineer, a millionaire, a murderer, and state security officer. How did they get there, and why have they been unable to get away from Isola? The only man they can tell their stories to and hope to receive help from is a Roma social worker, András, who supervises the whole shelter accommodating 80 persons on his own all night. But András himself is also at a low point of his life, and makes tremendous efforts to get his derailed life back on track again, to re-launch his formerly successful career and to derive the necessary strength somehow, while bearing the unbearable load of utter hopelessness in Isola.
